Concept: Flippers Snow Gear

Brand design concept, brand mascot, and marketing materials for Flippers Snow Gear.

Welcome back! Below you will find all the work I created for the concept, Flippers Snow Gear, as well as a more in-depth description of design choices. Disclaimer: This is not a paid client project, so some areas of this exploration may be unfinished or unpolished. Scroll to explore.

The Problem

Winter gear for kids is often designed with adult aesthetics scaled down—lacking personality, engagement, and storytelling. Brands miss the opportunity to turn outerwear into something kids want to wear, and something parents trust.

Color System

I developed a four-color system that balances cool winter tones with a bold accent. Each color was named to feel playful but descriptive. These were tested across packaging, apparel, and character art to ensure the palette stayed cohesive in all applications.
The stars you see above range from dark blue to bright orange. "Electric Tangerine" gives the color system a bright pop that contrasts well with the otherwise monochromatic blues.

Meet Flip + Mascot Pose

This is the first introduction to Flip, the brand mascot. I kept the linework simple and bold, with a big scarf and winter hat to tie him into the apparel theme. Giving him a warm drink added personality and set the tone for the cozy, kid-friendly feel of the brand.
I wanted to continue adding fun notes of the winter season in the first look at "Flip," the brand mascot. The penguin character is holding a mug of cocoa and bundled up for cold weather conditions.

Flip does RAD stuff

I wanted to show Flip in action. This pose adds energy and movement to the mascot system. It also shows how Flip can shift from static branding to character storytelling, giving the brand more life and range.
To expand the universe that Flip exists in, I created this RAD snowboarding pose and snowy background for Flip to interact with. This mirrors the brand’s focus on winter apparel/accessories.

Primary and Secondary Logo + Mascot Pose

The main brand logo uses thick, legible type with a snow-cap element to add visual interest. I kept the tagline short and clear, then added a small descriptor line to help ground the brand’s purpose. The secondary logo is a simplified headshot of Flip, designed for tighter spaces like mobile apps, tags, and badges. Both logos were built to feel strong on their own but still clearly part of the same system. The snow-topped headers were added to keep the brand seasonal and playful without being overwhelming.
In this image we see Flip in a generic stance. (A penguin can't be RAD all the time!) Behind him is a quick mock-up of the logo typography and logo mark.

Eco Packaging and Badges

I built a badge set that could be used for eco-labeling. Each one reflects the same rounded, chunky style as Flip. These elements support the idea that even a fun kids' brand can still take sustainability seriously.
The badges I designed for the stickers used on the brand packaging are the same fun colors as everything else. Multiple lines of the brand name give us a simple and trendy way to decorate the packaging.

Jacket Mock-Up and Mascot Pose

I used the snowflake motif from the brand system to create a pattern that could be applied to outerwear. Flip appears both as a full mascot and as a small chest patch to show brand flexibility. This mock-up was designed to show how the system scales from bold graphics to small brand moments.
Bringing a pop of color to this winter jacket mock-up was easy with the well-established color system I chose for this concept. This image also features another pose of Flip holding his snowboard.

The Solution

I created “Flippers Snow Gear,” a brand built around a mascot named Flip—a playful penguin designed to bring energy, warmth, and relatability to winter gear. The system includes a mascot-driven identity, cohesive color palette, bold typography, eco-aware packaging, and product applications that connect with both kids and parents. The goal was to build something that felt fun and trustworthy while staying clean and production-ready. Every design decision was made with simplicity, function, and emotional connection in mind.
